Welcome to Thursday Snippets
This week we have the third race in our 8 race winter series. Hopefully the winds we have seen this week will abate a little for Saturday. There is another visit by our friends the Victorian OK class. There is no Racing on Saturday 11th July with the Yachting Victoria Wintersail junior training weekend on the Lake. Our club then resumes its winter sailing season with Winter Series 4 on Saturday 18 July.
In mid June Parks Victoria placed a small orange buoy 3 or 4 metres out from the wall in the northern area of the “Narrows” section of the Lake to mark an underwater hazard. This follows an incident in early June when one of our Sabre sailors sailing through this area hit a pipe which was a few centimetres below the water surface.
The pipe is used periodically by Parks Victoria for extracting water from the lake for watering Lake surrounds and ovals on the western side of the Lake. After the incident was reported to a club committee member, contact was made with Parks Victoria.
Arrangements were made for Don McKenzie to take a Park Rangers out in an ASC rubber duck and place a small buoy on the pipe hazard which runs between the location of the buoy and the adjacent bank of the Lake. Placement of a more permanent “East cardinal mark” is currently being investigated by Parks Victoria.
If you are involved in an incident on the water or around the club which has caused damage, or a hazard which has the potential to cause significant damage, please bring it to our attention by completing a short Incident Report form. These forms are available from Bill Avallone our club secretary or from the Forms trays located in the Club Tower. All forms are reviewed, discussed and followed up. The objective is to reduce hazards and make Albert Sailing Club a safer environment for us all.
Working Bee
On the 11th of July the club will be running a day long working bee. We willl be off the water because of Wintersail, so we are looking at getting a large number of jobs done on the day. The list below is reproduced on the window in the clubroom near the tower, if there is a job you would like to tackle please initial the job.
1. Changerooms tiling and painting
- Don McKenzie and Steve Haintz are undertaking preparations for tiling, then handover to a tiling contractor.
- We need 3 or 4 people to do the painting over weekend of 11/12 July, including someone to lead the group. Steve Haintz has volunteered to purchase paint and equipment, but will not be finding the people to do the work or to lead then.

- Minimum is to sand back, re-paint/varnish, and repair seating in both Status boats. At some stage in next 3 months both boats need to come out of the water for scrape and clean of bottoms, and repair to flaps on stern which have perished and are the cause of leaking of water into bottom of boat. Don McKenzie knows what needs to be done, but will be busy with changerooms work on 11 July.

- Rod Thomas and members of sailing committee including Ron Fergusson, Paul Farrell, Gary Todd, Keith Staite, Colin Wright.
