Welcome to Thursday Snippets
The ASC Grand Final Trophy Race is on this Saturday. with an 11:00AM start. The objective is to be off the water by 1:00. After de-rigging you can have lunch and see the pre match entertainment(?) and the first bounce of the ball on a big screen TV in the clubhouse. For lunch we are going to have a chicken and champagne, with quarter oranges and sweets provided at half time. The cost for lunch is $10, $5 for juniors (orange juice rather than champagne).
On the weekend of 4 and 5 October our Spring sailing season gets into full swing with a full day of sailing programmed on both days.
On Saturday 4th of October we have the Club Member of the Year Trophy Race at 2pm. Stephen Annett is our 2008 Club Member of the year and he has special rights and privileges for the afternoon of this event. In the morning, from 10.30, Luke Tupper will be conducting another of his coaching sessions in with the focus on practicing starts and sailing close on a short course.
On Sunday 5th we have a Sunday Social Sailing Day and a Kickoff Day for our Spring Junior Training program.
The Social Sailing Day is for all members, with the focus on activities for newer members and members who do not regularly race. There will be a training clinic in the morning from around 10.30 pm and a scratch race and social sailing in the afternoon. Our Rear Commodore Rod Thomas and Steve Haintz are coordinating. If you have experience skippering our club Status boats and can help out in the morning or afternoon, contact
Rod.
The Spring Junior Training Program commences at 10am and is week one of eight Sunday morning sessions for junior sailors. This program is being organised by Don McKenzie with assistance from Rob Clark and the parents of juniors who participate.
More details about club sailing and training activities are available on our recently updated website www.albertsc.org.au.
The Yachting Victoria Annual General Meeting was held in our clubrooms on Monday night (the 22nd). Yachting Victoria is the peak body for sailing clubs in Victoria. The AGM was attended by around 80 people from a wide cross-section of Victorian sailing clubs and associations. Albert was represented by our commodore Don McKenzie, secretary Bill Avallone and Rear Commodore Rod Thomas. Various reports on Yachting Victoria’s activities for the 2007/08 season were presented and elections held for the six person Board of Management for 2008/2009. The incoming president Graeme Cunningham from Sorrento SCBC spoke to the new five year strategic plan and the challenges for Yachting Victoria in a sporting and leisure market where people have many available options.
