I hope that everyone has a great Christmas and a good start to the New Year. Across January we have had a successful 3 week Commodore's series with good winds and good fleets.
With the end of the Summer school holidays we have a busy program of sailing activities ahead. Saturday Club Racing On Saturday 30th we have Race 1 of our Summer Series, with the start for Division 1 at 2.30. There is then no club racing on Saturday 5 February, due to club participation in the annual Top of the Bay regatta. Club racing then resumes on 12 February withSummer Series Race 2.
Top of the Bay Regatta The annual inter club Regatta is being sailed from Port Melbourne Yacht Club on Saturday 6 February, with a 1pm Information Session for starts from 2pm. Albert needs at least ten entrants, with good representation from Impulse and Sabre class boats, to be competitive. A copy of the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for the regatta are on the site . If you are sailing it is suggested that you arrive by 11/11.30 and observe Parking Restrictions and Fees. If you need further information or assistance with boat transport speak to Rod Thomas or Luke Tupper. Basic Skills Training courses
We had two 8 week courses for Novice members commence on 23/24 January. There is a Saturday morning program being lead by Ian Fox and a Sunday afternoon course lead by Don McKenzie. Both courses are planned to run for 8 consecutive weeks and are full with 12 and 14 participants respectively. A big welcome to the new members who have joined in the last few weeks and are trainees on these courses. There is a list for the April Basic Skills course on the downstairs noticeboard, with places filling fast. Sunday morning Junior Sailing Our junior sailing program from 10 am to 12 noon has resumed, and now runs each week on Sunday morning. Juniors, ranging in age from 7 to 13 years of age, are learning to sail and having fun sailing in either their own boat or in a club boat. If you need more information come down on a Sunday morning or speak to Don McKenzie. Sunday Social Sailing Day and Better Sailing Training session The next of these is on Sunday 31 January. The club will be open from 10 am to 4 pm for those who want to come down and have a sail on the Lake. The Better Sailing training session will run from 1.15 to 4pm. with "Sailing in Stronger Winds" the topic for the upcoming session. Community Service Day The next Community Service for families from the MOIRA Interchange Southern group at Moorabbin is from 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday 6 February. We are expecting a group of 30 to 35 people. Albert SC will take people out in club boats and the Kiwanis Bayside group will provide a BBQ lunch. We need at least 6 club members to help out - speak to Rod Thomas if you can make it. If you are not sailing in the Top of the Bay regatta, please consider helping out with the Community Service Day on the following day.
Tuesday Twilight Sailing
Twilight sailing recommenced this week, and continues to the end of March. The racing is informal with a 5.50 briefing for starts from 6pm. |
